Home Exercises

Moving your neck regularly can keep it from getting stuck in the wrong position. When the pain lessens, you can do gentle stretches each day such as shoulder rolls and neck rolls. Before, be sure to take a shower or a bath or use a heating pad to warm your neck.

Cold and Heat

Applying ice inside a towel or an ice pack reduces inflammation. For the first 48 hours, do this for at most 15 minutes many times per day. Then you can use heat by applying a heating pad (low setting) or taking a warm shower. Alternating between cold and heat can reduce neck pain. After a sports injury, you can reduce pain and swelling by applying ice to the neck. For two to three days, do this for 15 minutes every three hours. Prevent skin injuries by placing the ice in a cloth or thin towel.

Sleep Better

Sleep problems can lead to various issues such as musculoskeletal pain. Plus, you can stifle the range of motion of your neck by using an excessive amount of pillows under your head. Instead, use a thin or cervical pillow or a rolled towel. A supportive mattress can also be helpful.

Move Around Often

Staying in one position for a long time can worsen neck pain. To avoid discomfort, get up and move around. Remember to do this when working at a desk, while watching TV, or whenever necessary. Doing so can help you reverse bad posture. You can also do aerobic exercises, which can improve blood flow and enhance your range of motion. Furthermore, around 30 minutes or more of aerobic exercise releases endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, and this can ease neck pain.
